One of the worst things currently happening to the Dushanbe city view, is a dramatic loss of the beautiful trees that used to line all the big roads in Dushanbe. Most of the trees in Dushanbe were planted by the Sowjets in the 60s and made the city look lush and simply pretty. Instead, expensively imported chestnut trees are planted.

In the left picture from 2008, you can still see the second row of sycamores lining the sidewalk towards the street. On the right you can see, the line of newly planted chestnut trees. The wide spread of mobile phones in Tajikistan, probably explains the disappearance of the phone booth in 2014.
