About

Dushanbe has a special place in my heart. Not only because I met my husband and some of my best friends there, but also because it is a special place. It definitely has been a special place. In the recent years however dramatic construction or rather destruction has been ruining the city landscape, trying to make it look like any other Central Asian capital with sterile empty highrises in Dictator-chic style and less and less trees.

I have spent overall about 4.5 years in Dushanbe, starting from 2007 with some interruptions and leaving it finally in 2014. The last week before I left, I had the sudden idea to look at my old photos and try to make comparative photos of the present state in Dushanbe.

This project is obviously an endless one and I could have spent weeks trying to document all the changes, but I tried to restrict myself to the photos I had from 2007/08 to be able to show a real comparison.

In some exceptions, I borrowed photos from other sources to show comparisons with the photos I took in 2014, but lacked photos of mine.
